These are the journal entries that will be graded at the next journal check date.
Guidelines+Expectations:
Your science journal is one of the most important things you will create in my class. It counts as 40% of your overall science grade, but most importantly, it will be where you take all of your notes, reflections, writing assignments, and study aides. This journal is designed to help you learn the information in a way that is organized, detailed, and personal to you. I will be making sure you learn how to set up your notes so that we can access certain areas quickly on all of the right pages, and you will be making sure that you put your personal touch on the left pages.
Journal set up
LEFT PAGES (HW Grade)
(Reflection Side) Students are expected to “reflect” on the notes/assignments written by: ¨ Drawing MEANINGFUL pictures to help themselves remember the material on the right page. ¨ Recording data tables, graphs, or charts. ¨ Inserts- (e.g. flower petals, crystals, newspaper clippings, photos, etc). ¨ Reflections/Journaling about the right page. ¨ Making acronyms or mnemonic devices. ¨ Creating a thinking map or graphic organizer. ¨ Writing a poem or rhyme to remember the info. ¨ Creating appropriate songs or raps about the info. ¨ Recording any questions they may have. ¨ Creating models or designing their own experiments about the information. This side of your journal is to show me that you UNDERSTAND the notes on the right page. So, when you are doing a reflection on this page ask yourself--- "How does this show Mrs. Dixon that I GET it!?" Show me on this page that you get the concept and you understand enough to interpret the information in a new way. |
RIGHT PAGES (CW Grade)
(Daily Tasks Side) Students will use the right pages of their notebook to: ¨ Take notes in class ¨ Complete daily “Science Starter” assignments ¨ Perform lab activities ¨ Complete each unit’s vocabulary assignments |
